"THE HABITS THAT SAVE HABITATS" IS ON THE NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION'S LIST OF 'SUGGESTED PROGRAMS' FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO SEE AS PART OF THE NEW JERSEY 'CLEAN COMMUNITIES' PROGRAM. | | | THE HABITS THAT SAVE HABITATS | WHAT DOES THIS PROGRAM CONSIST OF ? Elementary School Program The show is a theatrical presentation about the environment and nature. It includes stories, skits, original songs and audience participation. It can be organized into different segments according to the needs of your audience. Some of theses segments include: What we mean by the environment - explaining what the environment is; the global and local connection. Nature's Way - a look at how nature sustains life, focusing on green plants and trees. Habitats and Animals - explaining what habitats are and how our daily habits affect them. This also includes stories about endangered and extinct animals. Solutions and Good Habits - explaining in simple terms solutions to our everyday problems, like recycling, not littering and turning lights off when we leave the room. Showing how having respect for each other aids in preserving the earth. | The following are real letters that kids sent to Dave Street after he performed his show at their school. Dear Dave, Thank you for coming to our school. That Dodo bird looked funny, but it was sad how it became extinct. A lot birds are extinct. Many are endangered also. Thanks for giving the school a wonderful assembly. Sincerely, Sarah L. Dear Dave Street, Thank you for the wonderful show you put on for us. We hope you can come back again. My favorite part was when you did the Tree Rap Song. It was funny when the kids you picked were dancing. It's not unusual for students to start picking up litter in their schools immediately after Dave's presentation. ENTERTAINING: Dave is a former stand up comic and actor with over ten years of professional performing experience. This allows him to be entertaining and occasionally funny while making his presentations. In other words, he makes learning INTERESTING AND FUN!!! BUILDING SELF ESTEEM: Dave's presentations include building the self esteem of your students by having themparticipate directly in the program, acknowledging their intelligence and by making them aware that they are young leaders capable of doing unlimited positive things. INSPIRING GOOD CITIZENSHIP: Dave makes it clear that developing good habits like not littering and conserving energy is part of becoming a god citizen who cares about the condition of the community.
